Sara Corkery is a guitar player who was mentored both classically and acoustically by legendary guitarist and producer Declan Sinnott. As a young girl she became greatly interested in the fingerstyle playing of Doc Watson and the mandolin tunes of Bill Monroe, which nurtured within her a love of 'old timey' folk music and has greatly influenced her own style.

Sara was a member of the Cork based female vocal quintet “The Joyful Mysteries”, who met while attending the music course at Scoil Stiofan Naofa in Cork City in the early 1990s. This course provided her with experience playing live gigs, and opened up many opportunities to travel around Europe as a musician. The Joyfuls released their debut album in 1994, titled “7 Day Kiss”.

The time Sara spent with Dublin based vocal harmony group “The Fallen Angels” was an interesting experience, as her first love – the guitar – was not used for the tour. Sara found that standing onstage and using only your vocal ability is a very powerful way of expressing yourself.

Since then Sara has been playing nationwide gigs with various musicians, concentrating on the old time style and using fingerstyle guitar playing in her interpretation of songs. She has recently teamed up again with ex ‘Joyfuls’ member Aine Whelan, and together they have recorded their debut album “Don’t Mind the Rain” which is due for release in January 2008. On this recording, Sara and Aine applied the concept of “less is more” by playing all the guitar tracks themselves and using interesting instruments to give their sound an edge.

Aine Whelan released her own debut album “Between the Moon and Mercury”, which received critical acclaim. For more information, visit www.ainewhelan.com.
